Monique Edwards is a Jamaican-Canadian interdisciplinary artist and educator based between Brampton and Brooklyn. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology with minors in Biology and Biomedical Ethics from University of Toronto and recently completed her MFA in Painting at Pratt Institute.
Working in oil, Monique creates figurative and abstract paintings that merge scientific symbolism with narratives from the African diaspora. Referencing cosmology, particle physics, and theories of perception, her work examines identity, representation, and systems of belief, seeking to visualize the unseen, challenge dominant cultural narratives, and expand representations of Black womanhood in contemporary art.
